#4. Multi model is like multi cloud. It kinda sucks.While building our Bring-Your-Own-Model (BYOM) feature, we allowed users to bring Gemini and Anthropic models next to our default OpenAI models. That was a mistake. Turns out that swapping models is quite hard right now if you want to keep some form of quality control and not have dedicated tests, fixtures and code paths.
That’s a similar amount of CPU usage as when we started - but I’m running with 250 users, not 10. 25 times faster isn’t bad. With this setup, I’m able to support about 2,500 concurrent users before I start to see any stuttering.

This is the key insight: the build language is not baked into BuildKit. It’s a pluggable layer. You can write a frontend that reads a YAML spec, a TOML config, or a custom DSL, and BuildKit will execute it the same way it executes Dockerfiles.
